Certified Hendrickson Method Instructors

Dr. Tom Hendrickson
Tom Hendrickson D.C. is the founder and President of Hendrickson Method Institute in Kensington, California where he has been teaching his unique method of orthopedic massage and manual therapy since 1982. Dr. Hendrickson is also in private practice as a Chiropractor, specializing in soft tissue injuries.

Dr. Hendrickson began studying the healing arts in 1972. He trained with Zen priest and Shiatsu Master Riuho Yamada, studied Lomi Bodywork, a system of therapy combining deep tissue massage and breath work from Robert Hall M.D. et al, and trained in Reichian Bodywork under Phil Curcuruto D.C., Ed Jackson M.D. and Peter Levine PhD. He has also studied yoga, Tai Chi, and meditation, which he still practices on a daily basis. Dr. Hendrickson has a deep interest in the interface of healing and modern science and has trained with healers Rosalyn Bruyere and Muriel Chapman D.O. In 1982, Dr. Hendrickson completed a one-year apprenticeship and four-year training program under the legendary Lauren Berry, RPT, a mechanical engineer and physical therapist who made significant contributions to the field of soft tissue therapy. Dr. Hendrickson then completed his chiropractic studies and graduated magna cum laude in 1986. Hendrickson Method of orthopedic massage and manual therapy arises from this extensive training and Dr. Hendrickson’s clinical experience treating over 100,000 patients. In his recently published book Massage for Orthopedic Conditions (LW &W, 2003), he synthesizes his insights of energy medicine with the latest scientific research in orthopedics. Massage for Orthopedic Conditions is now published in five languages and is required reading in many massage courses.

 

Stephen Ames
Stephen is nationally certified, is a member of the AMTA, and has had a successful massage therapy practice since 1999. Since his first class with Tom Hendrickson in 2000, Stephen has dedicated himself to the Hendrickson Method. In addition to helping people in all sorts of pain and dysfunction, Stephen has applied the Hendrickson Method to the field of athletics, helping many athletes at the amateur and collegiate level to enhance their performance, and prevent or recover from athletic injury. Stephen has been a teacher in the field of massage since 2000, and a Certified Hendrickson Method instructor since 2004.

Pam Arata
Pam has been a certified massage therapist since 1995. She originally studied in a 720 hour program at the National Holisitic Institute in Emeryville, California. She has been studying Hendrickson Method since 1999. In June of 2003, she became a certified instructor of Hendrickson Method. Pam worked with Tom Hendrickson at his clinic as a massage therapist from 2001 until 2006. In 2004, she completed the Ellie Herman Pilates teacher training. She regularly teaches workshops at the Ellie Herman studio, combining her understanding of pilates with her knowledge of Hendrickson Method. She has a successful private massage practice using the Hendrickson Method with offices in San Francisco at the Ellie Herman Pilates Studio and in her home in Oakland, California.

 

Angelo dela Cruz

Angelo DelaCruz
Angelo obtained a Bachelor of Science from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a concentration in Anatomy and Physiology. He is a former Life Science Support Scientist for NASA and a 2nd degree Black Belt martial arts instructor.  He is a Professional Member of the American Massage Therapy Association and Nationally Certified by the NCBTMB.  Angelo has over 1300 hours of training in eastern and western philosophies of massage and bodywork and continually advances his experience and knowledge of the inner workings of the body and mind. His integrated and advanced therapy holistically addresses the energetic systems of a human being to encourage balance and harmony. Angelo is a Hendrickson Method Practitioner and has studied with Dr. Tom Hendrickson to become a Certified Hendrickson Method Teacher. He currently teaches Hendrickson Method certification courses and musculoskeletal anatomy review classes. By teaching other health care professionals to more effectively treat orthopedic conditions, he aims to uplift the profession of massage and make this type of work available to more people looking to live their lives at a higher potential. Angelo enjoys martial arts, CrossFit, Olympic Weightlifting, snowboarding, making electronic music, digital art photography, and quantum physics.

Giles Gamble

Giles Gamble
Native to the Bay Area, Giles pursued his education in massage initially in Marin, obtaining his CMT, advanced bodywork and acupressure certification before becoming involved with Hendrickson Method. He practices Hendrickson Method at the Hendrickson Method Clinic and in his private practice in Marin. Giles enjoys the uniqueness of this work and the way it benefits people. He likes to incorporate these philosophies in his favorite things - family, biking, and hiking.

Frank Haseloff Frank Haseloff

Frank Haseloff, a bay area resident since 1988, has been doing bodywork for 18 years. His training began in San Francisco’s Japantown where he studied Shiatsu and honed his skills for 11 years at the Kabuki Hot Springs. Over the years he has also worked at a senior care facility as well as several chiropractic clinics. As his interest in orthopedic massage grew, he discovered the Hendrickson Method Institute. He has studied and practiced the Hendrickson Method® for 9 years and has been a certified teacher of the Hendrickson Method since 2006. Frank is the owner of Walnut Creek Manual Therapy in Walnut Creek, providing Hendrickson Method manual therapy to the east bay communities for the past 7 years.
 

Randy Lind

Randy Lind
Randy is a certified massage therapist with over 1000 hours of body work training and has a private practice in Oakland CA, specializing in soft tissue injuries. He has been involved with healing work since he began doing Reiki at the age of 19. He obtained his initial massage training in 1996, from the Cayce-Reilly School in Virginia Beach, VA and has a BA degree from the University of Delaware in social services and counseling. Randy has been teaching massage in the Bay Area since 2000. Along with being a certified Hendrickson Method teacher, he is on the faculty at the San Francisco School of Massage teaching sports and orthopedic massage. Randy is a long time practitioner of meditation and is a student of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh.

Elizabeth McClain
Elizabeth McClain, CMT, BA in Dance, has been practicing Massage Therapy since receiving her Massage Technician certification from the International Professional School of Bodyworks in 1995. She completed the Teachers Training Programs at the Institute of Orthopedic Massage, now called Hendrickson Method Institute, in 2000, PDP II/ 5 Tigers Martial Arts School (2001), and Reclaiming Our Bodies Awake interdisciplinary dance arts program (2000). In addition to teaching at Hendrickson Method Institute, she has also taught Anatomy and Kinesiology for Massage Therapists in San Anselmo, CA, and Tai Chi/Chi Gung in Nederland, CO. Currently Elizabeth teaches review classes in Hendrickson Method in Palo Alto, CA at Body Therapy Center, and Tai Chi at the Land of Medicine Buddha in Soquel, CA. Her interests include Reiki, Tai Chi, Shao Lin, Chi Gung, Yoga, Buddhist Philosophy and the subtle, profound work of Cranial Sacral Therapy. She lives at the Land of Medicine Buddha in Soquel, CA, with her biggest inspiration, her husband, Tenzin.

Geffen Rothe

Geffen Amber Rothe
Geffen's diverse training includes a Master's degree in Somatic Psychology (1997), a certificate from the Swedish Institute Medical Massage Program (1993), a New York State License in Massage Therapy (1994), and years of experience practicing and instructing Kripalu Yoga (1993). Geffen had also completed her first level of training with the Milne Institute in Visionary Craniosacral training. As an instructor, Geffen demands a high level of commitment to detailed study combined with a willingness to play and to explore one's own inner landscape while learning. With the support of her teacher, Cheri Huber, Geffen's continuing practice of Zen Buddhist meditation reinforces her belief that compassionate awareness is the key to ending suffering, regardless of what is the cause of the pain. Studying Hendrickson Method has provided a vehicle for Geffen to integrate her diverse background of over a decade of professional bodywork with movement, meditation, introspection, deep touch, and gentleness.

Peter Rothe

Peter Rothe
Peter was born into a family of artists. He brings this creative sensibility into his massage practice and teaching style. He began his massage practice in 1989. He has studied with Tom Hendrickson for 17 years, rising to the rank of Advanced Therapist and senior teacher after 800 hours of training. Peter assisted Tom Hendrickson in refining the teaching manual for the Hendrickson Method professional certification course into the textbook, Massage for Orthopedic Conditions.

In 1992 he founded The Bodywork Institute in order to teach Hendrickson Method in the form of numerous workshops, free demonstrations and the 200 hour certification classes. His mission is to introduce as many people as he can to this amazingly effective work.  Peter believes that the planet is healed by bodywork - one body at a time. This work draws upon ancient traditions that can be scientifically verified in the physical body and felt, quite clearly, in the energetic.

Alexandra Threadgill-Inouye
Alexandra Threadgill-Inouye is a certified massage therapist and has been a professional member of the ABMP since 1997. She specializes in Hendrickson Method orthopedic massage and manual therapy. She has 800 hours of training in Hendrickson Method and is a certified teacher. She also has 300 hours of training in therapeutic massage and deep tissue therapy. Alexandra has seven years clinical experience working with chiropractors in the Bay Area. She presently works at the Hendrickson Method Clinic and has private practice in Oakland, CA.
