Our Doctors

Dr. Tom Hendrickson
Dr. Tom Hendrickson has been in private practice for thirty years. During this time, he has treated over 150,000 patients and is a renowned authority in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. He has been voted one of the best chiropractors in the Bay Area (“Best of the Bay”) by his peers.

Dr. Hendrickson is also the founder and President of the Hendrickson Method® Institute where he teaches his unique style of soft tissue therapy to health care providers.  The doctors and massage therapists at the Hendrickson Clinic all perform the Hendrickson Method of Massage and Manual Therapy in their treatments. Dr. Hendrickson’s textbook, Massage and Manual Therapy for Orthopedic Conditions (LW&W, 2009), is now in its second edition and published in five languages. It describes his unique method of treatment, and synthesizes his insights of energy medicine with the latest scientific research in orthopedics. An instructional DVD about his method of treatment will be available in September 2010.

Dr. Hendrickson believes that optimum health comes from the vitality of mind, body, and spirit.  For over thirty years he has incorporated yoga, Tai Chi, meditation, and prayer into a daily practice. He has also studied herbal medicine and nutrition and is a firm believer that a wholesome diet and supplements are keys to health.

Dr. Shin Aoki
Dr. Shin Aoki received his Chiropractic training at Palmer College of Chiropractic in San Jose, CA. He is also certified as a Chiropractic Sports Practitioner by the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians. Dr. Aoki has completed advanced training in the Hendrickson Method of Orthopedic Massage and Manual Therapy. He’s also certified in Active Release Techniques® for the spine and extremities. He enjoys his practice and teaching of Shintaido, a transformative martial art and moving meditation.

Dr. Michelle Scatina
Dr. Michelle Scatina is a graduate of Life Chiropractic College West. She incorporates traditional chiropractic adjusting with the very gentle techniques of craniosacral work and Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT). Dr. Scatina has been trained in the Hendrickson Method of Orthopedic Massage and Manual Therapy. She has also trained in neurological reeducation. Dr. Scatina specializes in pediatric chiropractic care, treating children of all ages.

Our Massage Therapists

Giles Gamble
Native to the Bay Area, Giles pursued his education in massage initially in Marin, obtaining his CMT, advanced bodywork and acupressure certification before becoming involved with Hendrickson Method. He practices Hendrickson Method at the Hendrickson Clinic and in his private practice in Marin. He became a certified teacher in the Method in 2005. Giles enjoys the uniqueness of this work and the way it benefits people. He likes to incorporate these philosophies in his favorite things — family, biking, and hiking.

Anna Ades
Anna was born in Malmo, Sweden. It was there that she began her massage therapy education at the Swedish school of Complementary Medicine in 1997. Anna furthered her education in America at the Acupressure Institute, in Berkeley, California, and the Mckinnon Institute, in Oakland, California. Anna is currently working at the Hendrickson Clinic in Kensington and at her private practice in Oakland and Walnut Creek as a Hendrickson Method Practitioner.

Bud Brett
Bud has been a bodywork enthusiast for the past nine years. What started as a hobby quickly grew into a profession and he now has over 1,000 hours of classroom training and is nationally certified by the NCBTMB. Bud has recently completed 400 hours of training in the Hendrickson Method. He has also studied with Perry and Johanna Holloman at the Esalen Institute, and received his certification at the Acupressure Institute. Bud has also studied with Irene Smith, who teaches students how to work with the ill, the elderly and the dying.

Bud’s complete focus today is on the Hendrickson Method. He is currently working at the Hendrickson Clinic, the Cira Family Chiropractic Clinic, in San Carlos, and with Frank Haseloff at his Walnut Creek Manual Therapy office. Bud also works one day a week with the elderly.

Lura DeOme
Lura has spent a good part of her life healing animals, plants and people. Her incarnations include veterinary technician with small and large animals, extensive studies in midwifery, a long career as a successful landscape designer and contractor and most recently certified massage therapist.

She graduated from a California State approved school of massage in Marin in 2004. In 2008 she completed Hendrickson Method Advanced Training certification studying under Tom Hendrickson at the Hendrickson Method Institute. Lura has practiced part time in the Hendrickson clinic for the last 2 years. She has also maintained her own private Hendrickson Method massage practice in Albany for 5 years where she enjoys helping her clients to find relief from the pain of injury and life’s wear and tear. Restoring the body to function is the central theme of her work.

Julie Ann Weiss
Julie Ann has been studying and practicing many forms of bodywork for the last 20 years. In the early 90′s she completed over 1000 hours of acupressure and jin shin jyutsu training. She also studied with many teachers at the Esalen institute, where she learned the beautiful and healing style of Esalen massage. Julie Ann has been studying with Tom Hendrickson since 2005. She has completed more than 800 hours of Hendrickson Method training and intends to make this a life-long study. She is especially intrigued by the extensive research in energy medicine that Tom brings to the work. This allows her to creatively weave her knowledge of acupressure and energy medicine into her Hendrickson Method practice. Julie Ann has been working at the Hendrickson Clinic since 2006, and she has a private practice in Walnut Creek. She is also an artist who enjoys painting mandalas.

Ryn Speich
Ryn offers caring, compassionate, skillful touch integrating the Hendrickson Method of Orthopedic Massage and functional rehabilitation with Traditional Asian Medicine/Acupressure. She has been working at the Hendrickson Clinic since late 2007 and has a private practice in Oakland’s Dimond District.

Ryn loves doing bodywork as it has been deeply effective in her own life sine 1984, and she is grateful to now be able to offer it to others. Ryn says, “It brings me pleasure and purpose to contribute to the health of those I touch and offer relief from pain.” She began practicing bodywork for fun, health and connection as an avocation in 1986 practicing first Polarity Therapy combined with Lomi Deep Tissue work, and then studying 3 years of Rosen Method bodywork and movement. She’s been training and studying with Dr. Hendrickson since 2006 practicing his incredible and highly effective Orthopedic Massage and Manual Therapy. She first came across his work in 1993 when she had her own soft tissue injury in her upper body and found great relief. She’s also completed over 1000 hours of study in Traditional Asian Medicine and Acupressure does continuing education coursework in both modalities, in addition maintaining active Qi Gong and meditation practices.

Jason Yee
Jae has been a personal trainer and professional bodyworker since 2004. As a Hendrickson Method Practitioner he specializes in muscular dysfunctions and soft tissue injuries. His study of the human body started at age 10 where he practiced and studied the philosophies of movement and energy through Chinese martial arts and Tai-Chi. Jae holds over 700 hours of study in combined Eastern and Western modalities of bodywork, is a Nationally-Certified Personal Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist and a Performance Enhancement Specialist. He is currently on staff at the Hendrickson Clinic and holds private practices in both Oakland and San Francisco.

Our Rehab Specialist

Amy Bruckmeier
Amy is a certified Pilates Teacher, rehabilitation specialist and educator. In conjunction with Hendrickson Clinic doctors she designs programs to help facilitate the healing process for clients with conditions such as lumbar disc degeneration, chronic back pain, whip lash, sciatica, knee replacements, rotator cuff injury, frozen shoulder and postural imbalances. She received her formal training from Ellie Herman at EHS San Francisco, and later received a second full certification through Balanced Body University. Amy assisted Lisa Graham at Agile Monkey Pilates Studio in Santa Cruz in the Balanced Body Teacher Certification Program (teaching the complete Pilates repertoire to prospective teachers) in 2008 and 2009. Always eager to learn more about the body, Amy participates in continuing education workshops such as rehabilitation technique with Lizz Roman and Marie Jose-Blom, and assisted stretching techniques with Giles Gamble, a certified Therapist and teacher of the Hendrickson Method. Claudia Moore | Manager
Claudia has been managing the Hendrickson Clinic for 20 years. Beginning in 1989 with Dr. Hendrickson and one massage therapist practicing at the Office, she has helped Tom transition into a busy and very successful clinic with 3 chiropractors, 8 massage therapists, one Pilates rehabilitation therapist and two office staff. Her deep commitment to service has made the calm and healing energy in the clinic a first priority. When not at the clinic, Claudia is busy in her studio working as a leaf artist.

Elaine Seuss
Elaine joined our clinic in 2007 as a part time office assistant. Her ease and facility with patient care, and clerical duties make her a much-valued asset to our staff. She continues to deepen her connection with chiropractic care and the Hendrickson Method as she is exposed to the many alternatives available for healing at the clinic. Elaine hails from over the pond but has made California her home where she and her husband are raising their two children age eleven and eight.
