NEW! Clinical Applications of Hendrickson Method
with Dr. Tom Hendrickson
Students who have graduated from Hendrickson Method, Essentials or Advanced, are invited to attend a series of one-day classes to see how Tom applies Hendrickson Method in a clinical setting. The class is held once a month on Mondays in conjunction with the ongoing certification training. Tom will show you how he integrates soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization, and MET in the clinical setting. The region of the body we will focus on will be the same as the weekend training. History, assessment, trouble-shooting, and treatment methods are demonstrated and practiced. These classes are part of the regular Essentials and Advanced Trainings, held in Berkeley, CA. You may choose to take individual classes, or attend the entire series of nine classes. 100% attendance is required to receive a certificate of completion (no tests will be given). HMA members receive a discount on all continuing education classes taught by HMI.

Anatomy for Massage Therapy and Pilates
(8 Classes)
Using Hendrickson Method as a reference, this course will clarify anatomy for application in a clinical setting. Each class will combine lecture, building anatomical structures in clay, and functional movement sequences. In addition to building muscle systems, we will use functional movement concepts to help clarify the use of Muscle Energy Technique, recognition of common patterns of soft tissue dysfunction and correction of dysfunctional patterns. The movement training portion of each workshop will focus on ways that anyone can deepen their understanding of their own anatomy/function and will give the massage therapist straightforward ways to explain anatomical and kinesiological concepts to their clients.
In the Level 1 class series the focus will be on basic anatomy and more superficial muscle systems. We will highlight broad concepts of movement and anatomy that set a foundation that anyone can use in practice.
In the Level 2 class series the focus will be on deeper structures such as intrinsic musculature, ligaments, joints capsules and some nerves. We will focus more on the specific needs and questions of each participant. Movement that is more specific and subtle will be presented but will also be tailored to the participants.
Each class will focus on one area of the body, as corresponding to the Fundamentals/Essentials/Advanced certification program.
Level 1
- Oct. 14th: Lumbar and Thoracic I (Major trunk muscles; concepts for balancing the spine in stability and fluidity.)
- Nov. 11th: Neck and Shoulder I (Superficial shoulder and neck musculature; movement for the shoulder and neck to find optimal support and range of motion.)
