Hendrickson Method
Hendrickson Method is an advanced system of orthopedic therapy that brings
together a dynamic combination of techniques: massage, mobilization, and
neuromuscular re-education, synthesized with Eastern energy practices.
Clients receive a gentle session that provides pain-relief and functional
rehabilitation. Precise and extremely effective, Hendrickson Method is
suitable therapy for most orthopedic conditions including low back pain,
whiplash, and rotator cuff injuries. With long-term benefits far beyond
what is possible with massage, this exceptional system of functional rehabilitation
uses techniques that stimulate the synthesis of new cells, rehydrate cartilage,
and realign soft tissue. At its core is a one-of-a-kind stroke called
wave mobilization®, so named because its
gentle rocking motion mimics ocean waves.
Our Business
Hendrickson Method Institute of Orthopedic Massage & Manual Therapy,
formerly known as The Institute of Orthopedic Massage, is a California
State approved vocational school (since 1997) offering 500 hour advanced
training programs in Hendrickson Method. Our graduates are sought after
professionals and experience greatly enhanced success in their practices
as a direct result of their training with us. We also operate a Hendrickson
Method Clinic, where Dr. Hendrickson, other Hendrickson Method chiropractors,
and Hendrickson Method Advanced Therapists work to serve clients from
around the Bay Area.

About Tom Hendrickson

Tom Hendrickson D.C. is the founder and President of the Hendrickson Method®
Institute in Kensington, California where he has been teaching his unique
method of orthopedic massage and manual therapy since 1982. Dr. Hendrickson
is also in private practice as a Chiropractor, specializing in soft tissue
injuries.
Dr. Hendrickson began
studying the healing arts in 1972. He trained with Zen priest and Shiatsu
Master Riuho Yamada, studied Lomi Bodywork, a system of therapy combining
deep tissue massage and breath work from Robert Hall M.D. et al, and trained
in Reichian Bodywork under Phil Curcuruto D.C., Ed Jackson M.D. and Peter
Levine PhD. He has also studied yoga, Tai Chi, and meditation, which he
still practices on a daily basis. Dr. Hendrickson has a deep interest
in the interface of healing and modern science and has trained with healers
Rosalyn Bruyere and Muriel Chapman D.O. In 1982, Dr. Hendrickson completed
a one-year apprenticeship and four-year training program under the legendary
Lauren Berry, RPT, a mechanical engineer and physical therapist who made
significant contributions to the field of soft tissue therapy. Dr. Hendrickson
then completed his chiropractic studies and graduated magna cum laude
in 1986. The Hendrickson Method of orthopedic massage and manual therapy
arises from this extensive training and Dr. Hendrickson’s clinical
experience treating over 100,000 patients. In his recently published book
Massage for Orthopedic Conditions (LW &W, 2003), he synthesizes
his insights of energy medicine with the latest scientific research in
orthopedics. Massage for Orthopedic Conditions is now published
in five languages and is required reading in many massage courses.
